About

As someone who lives behind a screen in my 9-5ish world, it’s been a challenge over the years to commit with any real consistency to bringing my very distinctly offline passion for cooking, eating, dreaming and scheming about meals online. And not for any lack of trying, in fits and starts, since 2004, and not counting the one-off Facebook shots of a particularly handsome dinner. But it’s important to mention that in no way does this mean my hobby (and occasionally, my profession) goes hopelessly undocumented.

Far from it.

I am a chronic clipper and filer of recipes from a set of subscriptions that is likely the string holding the food publication industry together (sorry, Gourmet. I tried!) My growing collection of cookbooks are dog-eared, paper-clipped, highlighted and personally annotated. Years worth of spiral notebooks and pocket journals chronicle recipe-testing adventures through a patchwork of colorful smears and textures, maybe even a scratch-and-sniff. Let’s not even talk about  the pile of print-outs of tried-and-true family favorites emailed from my mom.

Nevertheless, when the mood or the momentum strikes, I like knowing that I have this digital outpost as a venue for expressing those thoughts about food that need some space to be rolled out, or some time to simmer. I dream of that productive burst of energy in which I willfully catalog recipes, menus and meals in this ever-expanding cloud of content.

I’ll get around to it, I’m sure. But first, I’m going to go fix myself a snack.
